After beating China 1-0 in the match round, Vietnam started the final confidently, contrary to China who played very cautiously. However, with their height advantage, the Chinese players defended themselves well against high balls which made Vietnam switch attack strategy. U-16 Vietnam's technique and ability to move without the ball gave their opponents a real headache and in the 44th minute, Nguyen Xuan Nam scored the opener from Anh Tuan’s cross to put Vietnam ahead. After the break, the young Vietnamese players kept the game under control and prevented China's efforts to equalize for the remainder of the match. At a press briefing afterward, the coach of U-16 China said Vietnam deserved to win the title. Meanwhile, Vietnamese coach Hoang Van Phuc was very happy with the result. Earlier, in the match for third place, U-16 Timor Leste made a great upset after beating hosts Indonesia 2-0.
